SOCIAL STUDIES – CULTURES TEST during the second day of the week (May 27th – 31st) that students have this subject. This test is to evaluate understanding of the material covered in the passport by comparing certain cultures for similarities and differences, assess knowledge of Material and Non-Material concepts as well as the ability to evaluate and explain preferences about the material covered.
After the test, the passports they have been filling out for the past 8 weeks will be collected for evaluation. Beyond the notes on each culture (which were their study guides), teachers will be checking to be sure the following pages contain basic information: Student Identity page, Ancestry Page with the culture chosen for their puzzle and 3 facts they learned from that research, Culture page with 2 EXTRA examples of Material and Non-Material items or concepts, A Day in the Life Of page (a young person their age from one culture imagined from morning to night), Urban and Rural page, Immigrant & Refugee page, Gender Roles page.
The Racism, Prejudice & Stereotypes page does NOT have to be filled.
Please note that there have been several check-ins throughout this project in class, time given to catch up and even mandatory sessions at lunch to complete information.

Dates vary among pod classes due to scheduling and weather interruptions. Dragon logs are due December 11th but some Bear classes will only be due the last week of school before the holidays.
Students are also working on a small project in class about an EXTREME WEATHER EVENT of their choice. Check with your child to be sure they have chosen one from the Environment Canada Website (Top 10 weather events from __year of choice___). By next week, any student who has not chosen and researched an event in class will be asked to choose one from printouts provided in either language. This piece will be completed before the holiday break.
